Hoshyar Zebari

We can learn a lot about a person if we know what types of things he or she talks about or comments on the most frequently. There are numerous topics with which Hoshyar Zebari is associated, including city and revenge. Most recently, Hoshyar Zebari has been quoted saying: “How will this multi-ethnic, multi-sectarian city ... be governed and run without communal conflict, without revenge killing, without a large displacement of people? That needs some political planning on how the city will be governed. It should have a strong representative governance in the city.” in the article Battle for Mosul can shape or break Iraq further. An other article where Hoshyar Zebari has been quoted is Islamic State said to lose ground as coalition closes on Mosul.

Daesh is disoriented they don't know whether to expect attacks from the east or west or north.

The war today is not only for defending Kurdistan and the Kurdish territory but is also a war for the defence of Iraq's people and minorities. This war is for the defence of the whole region and humanity.

There are several reasons, namely the Syrian crisis which Islamic State has taken advantage of, the problems between Iraqi politicians , and also the Arab Sunnis who felt marginalised by government policies. These groups seized huge amounts of weapons and modern equipment and money. All these factors have not been properly appreciated by the intelligence services and Iraq's leaders.

I do not agree with you, and I read the book. It's not like this, perhaps it is a media interpretation?

I think that opinions are clear about this case, it's not just because there was a direct threat to American interests in Erbil, but there was a humanitarian emergency. The danger here in Erbil was huge, so it needed quick decisions and immediate action to stop the advance of Islamic State.

Is the war against Islamic State to defend Kurdistan and the Kurdish areas, or is it a decision or stems from a unified decision with the new government to eradicate this extremist group?

Nobody here in Washington should underestimate how much influence the United States and its values, its morals, have on the region. Definitely, there is a need for more leadership, to be honest with you.

For the first time, all the key players, regional, international, come together to address one issue – that is how to work together to stabilise the situation in Iraq.
