Ismail Haniyeh quotes

The government expresses its condolences to the Italian government and people, the family and loves ones of the Italian activist.

There is no peace, there is no settlement, there is a mirage. This is farce, a political mascarade.

I hope this dialogue will succeed and the strife will end, bringing unity to our nation.

This calm should bring security in the interests of our people and reduce their suffering. It should also bring some comfort to the Israelis if they stick to the truce.

The Palestinian demands are clear – lift the blockade, open the crossing and end the aggression, and we believe these demands have been met. We trust that what we agreed upon will last and the Palestinian people will see the fruits of their endurance.

We will keep to the same path until we win one of two goals: victory or martyrdom.

We made great efforts to keep the truce but we faced an escalation in aggression against the Palestinian people. It's not a Palestinian problem, it's an Israeli problem.

We reject the American and Israeli pressures which are being practised against our people and against the government and which want our people to deny the Mecca agreement and to return to the starting point. This is the will of the Palestinian people and they have either to respect the will of the elections or respect the will of the agreement.

There may be obstacles, but we confirm we´re going with the true intention of reaching a Palestinian-Palestinian agreement that would end tensions and reinforce national unity.

The Executive Force is part of the security apparatus, which comes under the Interior Ministry. It's a legitimate force and it conducts its duties based on the orders from its headquarters and the Interior Ministry.

We continue to stress that all parties must abide by the reconciliation agreement. We should keep restraining ourselves in order to preserve Palestinian blood and reinforce national unity.

This will help lift the embargo placed on the Palestinians, lighten their suffering and achieve the release of ministers and parliamentarians. I hope these talks are fruitful.

The initiatives are composed of five items. First, the return to calm by the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all of the Gaza Strip and the stopping of all forms of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. I stressed the necessity of stopping the campaign of arrests, assassinations and incursions.

It reflects the Israeli plot to reoccupy large territories in the Gaza strip, destroy the infrastructure, a helpless attempt to bring down the Palestinian government under the pretext of looking for captured people.

We understand our people's needs: We call upon the whole world, the American administration, the Europeans, the Arabs and Muslims to support the Palestinian people.

I praise the EU and the UN who have started talking about ending the siege. We hope they move forward and end what is leading the region to disaster.

Unfortunately, this problem is intensifying because of the parties that surround the Palestinian people and because it is backed by the US and the Israeli occupation.

We will not give in to this blackmail or give up our rights and principles.

Our government will be ready for a dialogue with the Quartet (of international mediators) to look into all ways to end the state of struggle and achieve calm in the region.
