Last quote by Mark Hughes

If you look at Costa, he was brilliant at taking it up to the edge, then stepping back, and it affected opposition teams. Maybe they don't have that ability with the dark arts right on spec at the moment. I used to enjoy watching him play because he had an edge to him and the reaction of other players to him was really interesting. That's a skill in itself. You can take it right to the line and then step back and get other people into trouble because they haven't got that skill to stop where they should do. He was great at it and that's why I like watching him play.feedback

Obviously this deal was with a view to the future because we know that Kurt is a Chelsea player, but Kevin is our player now and we knew that this deal wouldn't have been available to us this time next year. There is a lot of money being spent this summer, so for us to get a player of Kevin's calibre through the door for the price we have paid, in my opinion, is something we will really appreciate for years to come.feedback

Aug 29 2017

We brought Kurt Zouma in earlier in the window and managed to bring Bruno Martins Indi back to the club following his loan spell last season, so bringing Kevin here too, a player I admire greatly, gives me real strength in depth in those central positions. Aug 27 2017

We've gone behind against the run of play and showed good character to come back. We made some changes to make us more dynamic in the final third. It wasn't a high-quality game and I didn't particularly enjoy it! But sometimes that's what you get when you come here. You've got to be vigilant, we made probably one mistake in the 90 minutes and that's when they scored. We had a good mentality to get back into the game.feedback

Aug 27 2017

I don't know if the conditions just took the edge off both sides. It's a warm day, long grass, no water on the pitch. In the end, we'll take the point, it's an improvement on our performance here last year.feedback

Aug 27 2017

We have looked at a number of areas but that was a priority this year because we felt we hadn't invested to much in terms of defensive positions since I came here really. We have done well with Kurt Zouma coming in and Bruno (Martins Indi) coming back, so we look in good shape. But there's still opportunities and hopefully we will get a couple over the line.feedback

Aug 21 2017

Jack wants to be the best he can be and that's all you hope for in players, that attitude – and he has the means to do it as well. He's an outstanding keeper technically and he's got the physical attributes to be a top line keeper, we all understand that. Clearly he has had a set-back with the injury and he needs to move on from that by having a good season, really impressing and moving up a level.feedback

Aug 20 2017

He can play right across the front three or four. That versatility and flexibility is perfect.feedback

Aug 20 2017

I think everybody is going to enjoy watching him and that he'll light the Premier League up as the season progresses.feedback

Aug 20 2017

He hadn't trained all week the week before this one, and trained three days this week, so it was a little bit of a risk (to put him straight in the starting line-up).feedback

Aug 20 2017

I thought he scored a great, finisher's goal - that of a top player in my opinion.feedback

Aug 19 2017

Everyone knew what an acquisition Jese is. He's a game-changer.feedback

Aug 19 2017

He's an elite player. A player that can change games, I'm delighted he's here. He's not up to speed yet. He's only had one significant training session and missed a week's training last week because his new-born child had a minor operation. But he came in and wanted to make an impression and really enjoyed his first taste of the Premier League.feedback

Aug 18 2017

Everyone is excited to see him play. He is an elite player, a top-level player and you don't get too many opportunities to bring players like him to the club.feedback

Aug 18 2017

Good players are still available. When the so-called bigger clubs have done their business there is a bit of churn and good players become available. We don't rule anything out.feedback

Aug 18 2017

It isn't about spending £20 million here or there, it's about being stronger and we are. We are still in the market, still looking. We will consider every opportunity and if the means are there to do it, we will try.feedback

Aug 18 2017

If the window stopped now we would be stronger than when it started. As an exercise to manage yourself through the window we have done well.feedback

Aug 18 2017

We are excited by the group we have brought in.feedback

Aug 18 2017

We are hoping to involve all the ones we have brought if we can, albeit some will be on the bench and some will start. I think we can give Jese a platform here to really enjoy himself. If you compare and contrast with last season I believe we are much stronger.feedback

Aug 18 2017

You might read it but it won't happen.feedback

Jul 06 2017

He is one of a number of players we are looking at, but we speak to a lot of clubs and ask about their plans for certain players.feedback

Jul 06 2017

Fabian is one that we have asked about, because he is a good footballer, but with certain deals you are in the hands of other clubs.feedback

Jul 06 2017

We are very active in the market at the moment, and we are hopeful that things will begin to move quickly for us.feedback

Jun 01 2017 - Manchester United

Darren is a person and a player that I have admired from afar for quite some time now, and I'm understandably delighted to have been able to bring him to the club. It goes without saying that he has enjoyed a distinguished career in the game, having helped Manchester United to win any number of trophies during his hugely successful time there.feedback

Jun 01 2017

He has shown over the past two seasons that his qualities and appetite for the game haven't diminished in any way, and I believe that his experience and leadership qualities will significantly enhance us.feedback

May 06 2017

Disappointed not to win, but I thought it was a good performance. We had a gameplan to frustrate them and it worked. I think their first goal was offside, and we are disappointed the referee did not see fit to send off one of their players early on in the game. A terrible challenge on Joe Allen, the lad was out of control.feedback

May 02 2017

Clearly we haven't started talks. I don't think we as a club enter into negotiations sooner than 12 months from the end. Some clubs do it when players have got two years left, and we don't seem to do that. There's not an issue, not from our point of view. We certainly want to keep Ryan here if we can. We don't usually enter into negotiations until there are 12 months to go. Sometimes that can help the players, because sometimes more power goes to the player the closer you get to the end. There are two ways to look at it.feedback

May 01 2017

All top clubs need keepers like Jack.feedback

Apr 09 2017 - London

First-quarter numbers combined with a strong medium-term pipeline of both domestic and foreign issuers, suggest that London is well placed to continue as Europe's premier exchange as the UK negotiates its exit from the EU.feedback

Apr 08 2017

We're waiting on a few. Jon Walters wasn't able to play in mid-week due to a slight concussion but he's come through multiple checks ok. Shaqiri has trained and is available so that's good news. We've got a couple of issues with Marc Muniesa and Mame Diouf, bangs on knees, but they're down to train today.feedback

Apr 07 2017

There's always that motivation to show them there's life in you as a player and I think that certainly comes to the fore when you go up against them. I think there's the thinking that people think when you leave a top club, you're at the end of your career to a certain extent and you're on a downward spiral. But I didn't take that view when I left Man United – I didn't want to be seen as seeing out the rest of my career to a certain degree. Joe has come here and he's playing week in, week out so he's got a better platform to show people what he can do.feedback

Mar 31 2017

He had a whole pre-season then still broke down so we're not getting ahead of ourselves. It shouldn't be too long and he's very confident and looking forward to getting going.feedback

Mar 31 2017

We've got to get to the bottom of these calf problems. It's a little bit of a concern to be perfectly honest. At the moment, when he steps things up, he gets set-backs.feedback

Mar 31 2017

I would go up against my granny if she was in the opposition! They are team-mates who enjoy each other's company but as international rivals... I've got no problem. They were in the same group yesterday, talking and chatting and no problems at all. That's always been Saido's stance and we've got no reason not to believe him. From the first time we spoke to Saido that's always been his stance and he's never wavered. In this day and age you can believe that it can happen. He's looking good, in a good place. He's had set-backs in the past so maybe we're a little bit cautious.feedback

Mar 18 2017

Diego Costa is adept at the dark arts and everyone in football recognises that. He draws fouls and tries to make the most of contact when they are not fouls. We did not target Costa, he targeted our players if anything. I played in that position for many years and you have to react better than that.feedback

Mar 18 2017

It is Chelsea's title now and you could see from their celebrations we ran them close. We kept on going, kept on moving the ball but there was a suggestion for a red card for our penalty. It was a little bit feisty, we gave everything and I cannot criticise our players. We have given a good account against the champions elect.feedback

Mar 06 2017

He needs to enjoy scoring more than he does to be compared to Zlatan. I think he'd be just as happy with an assist, which as a striker I get a bit confused about. At times we probably lean a little bit too heavily on him. When he's in the vein of form he's shown today, he's very difficult to stop.feedback

Mar 03 2017

Wilf has been a little bit unlucky. He had a good run of 11 games I think it was. It's fair to say he didn't score as many goals as he would like. Wilf has to be patient. All players have to be if they are out of the side. He will get opportunities, I'm sure, before the end of the season. Wilf's a good player and a good guy, but sometimes frustration happens. When he gets opportunities he has to take them.feedback

Feb 25 2017

Xherdan Shaqiri is ok again now and available for selection and Geoff is very close too – the game may come a little too soon for him but at the moment he is in my thoughts.feedback

Feb 05 2017

I was there for quite some time, and didn't leave the pitch area. There was no handshake at the beginning of the game either. I always think as a visiting manager, I am a guest of their club, then they should be a gesture. I don't think so (any bad blood). Not to any great extent. It has been a difficult week for everyone connected to the situation.feedback

Feb 05 2017

It is important for us as a club and for Saido to get on with what we have to do and continue to work hard to get Saido back to the level he is capable of, and the only way to do that is to get him back playing games.feedback

Feb 04 2017

It was not a great day from our point of view, we found it really difficult to get a foothold in the game. We were just a little bit off the pace in fairness, Leicester were sharper to the ball.feedback

Mar 28 2016

In the past they've been pretty disciplined about what they're willing to pay and generally acquisitions have been accretive very quickly to their earnings.feedback

Mar 28 2016

They're in a very steady business that's growing nicely but acquisitions have always been a key component of their growth strategy.feedback
