This final poll confirms the pattern that ICM has produced over the last fortnight: a fairly healthy and static Conservative share with consolidation of the Labour bump first witnessed after the manifesto publication.feedback

The latest quote from Martin Boon is: “Polls are now giving different impressions, but variations in numbers are pretty much down to one not so simple thing: the likely turnout and voting behaviour of people motivated by Labour's popular appeal, most especially young people and 2015 non-voters. If you think that such people will get out to vote Labour this time in numbers that buck the trend of them not having done so at just about every General Election for generations, then for you this is a close race.”. It comes from the The maps and charts showing the state of play on the eve of the General Election article. You’ll find on this page 13 articles with Martin Boon quoted on topics such as EU and poll. I think the result is going to be a foregone conclusion. Theresa May's 18 to 20 points is about as secure a polling lead as any prime minister has ever had when they have called an election. I think you would have to go back to Tony Blair to find similar leads. It should not be the cataclysmic event that it was in 2015. We should expect to see the polls plus or minus 2 to 2.5 percentage points at worst from the result. I would be surprised if the SNP did not hold on to the seats they won two years ago.feedback

Whether Labour's upward move is mere sampling variation or some kind of reaction to Stoke and Copeland is not something that we can rule in or out until further evidence emerges.feedback

It is only one poll but, in a rather unexpected reverse of polling assumptions so far, both our phone poll and our online poll are consistent on both vote intentions and on the EU referendum.feedback
